LRC Visits Newmarket 20 May 2017

Rowley Mile, Grandstand

Penny Cregan, Jo & Dave Heaton

A small but appreciative group of LRC members took full advantage of Betway's generous offer of complimentary PREMIER badges to Saturday's Newmarket meeting on May 20th.

As the Champion series cantered on to Newbury's Lockinge, this quieter meeting gave us the opportunity to explore all areas of the course with ease. We were able to be on the head-on steps, seeing clearly the undulations & ridging that presents a real challenge over the 8f track.

All in all an excellent day. Huge thanks to Alan Alger for his kindness in donating the badges.  We had a cracking time!

Well! What a splendid way to kick off the LRC Flat season! Members of the LRC & their guests were quick to snap up the FREE grandstand tickets for Epsom's Spring Meeting, featuring the Derby trial & Metropolitan Handicap.

LRC members also had the benefit of a FREE viewing box, which, given the Arctic conditions, was really appreciated! Huge thanks to Epsom & Dan Cooper, LRC member & Jockey Club Events Co-ordinator, for generously facilitating a wonderful day. Hopefully, the Spring Meeting will become a regular LRC April event, marking the change from Jumps to the Flat season.

Before racing, some of us were lucky enough to visit the Gladiateur Suite, home of The Derby museum, to see the exhibits donated by the LRC last year. Here we are raising a glass in front of some of our Derby memorabilia. Cheers!

CHELTENHAM 2017 PREVIEW 9 March 2017

It was standing room only at the LRC flagship preview. Our superb panel, tightly chaired by our President, Lee Mottershead, managed to analyse 4 days in under 3 hours!

Lydia Hislop, Phil Smith, Matt Tombs & Star Sport's, Martin Chapman were in tremendous form.  Lydia's championing of Buveur D'Air & Apples Jade came good on Tuesday, with Special Tiara e/w for Wednesday.  Phil's picking Ireland @ 4/1 for the Prestbury Cup showed faith in his assessment of the Irish handicappers, whilst Might Bite did his quirky best to defy Phil's prediction for the RSA!  He was bang on about Cause of Causes too in the X-Country. Matt's assessment of Nicholls Canyon was borne out in the Stayers. Martin tipped Minella Rocco as an e/w 'coming good' bet. These are but a few of our panel's win & placed tips. Huge thanks to all of them for giving their time & expertise so generously.

As always, John Jacobs organised the raffle. Huge thanks to Liz Armstrong; Jamie Snowden, Star Sports, Cheltenham & Kempton Racecourses for their generous donations. Darren Corner & Penny Cregan were brilliant sellers, helping the LRC reach just over £700 - the best ever raffle total!

LRC Visit to Jamie Snowden's Yard - 20 August 2016

It's always good to see old friends and Saturday 20th August was no exception. The Club's second visit to Folly House saw a 40-strong yard, consisting of hardened summer jumpers like Carrikgerry, second season bumper horses like Midnight Chill and Naranja and seasoned campaigners back from injury like Souriyan and Val De Law.

We were treated to a tour of the yard, with Jamie giving us an overview and plan for each horse. It's abundantly clear that this is a yard where the horse comes first. All were relaxed in their boxes and eager in the work we saw on the gallops afterwards.

It's worth pointing out that Jamie has some lovely new stock in the yard available to buy shares in or lease. Also the Jamie Snowden Racing Club gives its members loads of fun with interests in three horses.

It was a splendid and illuminating visit. Huge thanks to Jamie and Team Snowden for making us so welcome and being so generous with their time. We were left in no doubt that Capt Snowden has some serious ammunition for the 2016-17 season.
